2012 - School of Mission - NORTH Island team - outreach report

The North Island team led by Mely made our first stop up north in Hamilton. The team of 16 were blessed with the opportunity to know Christ and make Him known in St. Columba's Parish. We conducted parish seminars and we also had the opportunity to meet the parishioners at home when we went door knocking.

As for the youths, we organised a gathering at St. Columba's over the weekend themed U-turn and God's Masterpiece. Besides that, we also conducted an outreach for the students of St. Columba's Primary School, mainly to share with them Jesus and the JOY that he gives us.
Overall, the North Island team truly had a memorable experience in Hamilton. We praise and thank God for all the wonderful people we met and who blessed us with their warm hospitality and really yummy food. Thank you Jesus!

School of Mission - Formation Phase

Time flies! It has been 3 months since the School of Mission started, that also means that we will be ending the “Formation Phase” of the School, from next week, we begin a new phase; “Mission Phase”. This is dedicated more intensively for direct evangelization to parishes, schools, street outreach etc.

For this week, we enter into a week of better understanding ‘Evangelisation’. The School of Mission aims to empower Catholics to be more effective evangelisers in the respective countries, work places etc.

Here are some highlights of the last few weeks.

Benilda, our new staff member from India

Hi, I’m Benilda Gonsalves from India, and a full-time missionary for Jesus in the ICPE Mission. During the last six years in India, I had the opportunity to journey with the youth, counseling and praying with them; helping with faith formation in the Parish; assisting at the ICPE Schools of Mission as also at the retreats conducted for schools and colleges. There were also opportunities to minister to prayer groups and other ministries beside the occasional missions abroad.

On 22nd January this year I was happy to move to the NZ Mission. I looked forward to get to know other brothers and sisters in the Mission, live in a Monastery and experience Community life with them. Acts 1:8 quotes Jesus instructing his disciples, “You will be my witnesses……to the ends of the earth.” I felt amused this was partly being fulfilled in me as I arrived in New Zealand!

From the time I arrived I have felt a special endearment for the people of NZ, even though I only know a few. The beauty of this place too is truly breathtaking. I am sure the Lord who brought me here will use me to draw many to Himself. I hope to have a very fruitful time here. Praise God.
